Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction April 19, 2008

Filed under: Donations, Registration — scidstuff @ 10:41 am

Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction

You can “Go Green” and “Give Back” at the same time! “Go Green” by donating a used item to the “Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction”. Then “Give Back” by bidding in the auction itself. I am pleased to announce this exciting event will be included as a SCID Conference activity. I want everyone to come prepared for this fun exchange by bringing at least one item to donate to the auction, as well as bringing a check book to pay for the wonderful items you win.

Every registrant will be asked to bring with them at least one item to donate to the auction. The items do not need to be new, that’s where the “Going Green” part comes in. You can donate items which are in good, clean working condition, but which are no longer used in your house. All items will be displayed in a silent auction where all registrants may place their bids. All money collected will go directly to The SCID Initiative. So now, not only can you clean out some of those unused items, you can make a difference for a cause which is important to all of us.

What to donate:

Are there any stipulations on what I can and cannot donate? The first stipulation is that it be something small enough to be carried home in a suitcase or airline carry-on bag. Since many of our families will be arriving by plane, we want to have items which can easily return home with them. Second, the item must be in like-new working condition, clean, and have all its original parts. Third, no clothing or personal items please, unless they are unworn, with original tags. Fourth, stuffed animals should only be donated if they are new, with original tags. Think about those items which you or your kids no longer use. Some suggestions include:

  • Family Friendly DVD movies
  • Books, especially children’s books which your children have outgrown or popular reading list books
  • Children’s games, board games, toys, with all original parts and instructions
  • Costume jewelry that’s been stuck at the bottom of your jewelry box because you just don’t like it anymore
  • Scrapbooking supplies that you’ve grown tired of using
  • Electronic game disks or cartridges for current game systems such as: GameBoy, Game Cube, Wii, PS2, PS3, or Xbox which your kids have either beaten or outgrown
  • Small household accessories such as picture frames, vases, decorative accents, etc. that just don’t go with your current décor

So start your spring cleaning and start thinking about the “Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction” and make your friends “Go Green” with envy when they see the wonderful items you’ve won!

As we near the end of March, the logo contest is coming to an end.  This is your last chance to submit a drawing and possibly win $100.  The winner will be announced during the conference.  Check the “logo” category of the blog for further details.

Things are progressing with the conference.  I am currently working with Diana Gill at the IDF on registration.  The Immune Deficiency Foundation has been gracious enough to host online registration for this event.  Thank you IDF! Registration will begin on Tuesday, May 6th and will run for four weeks only.  Remember, space is limited and we will be accepting applications on a first-come, first-severe basis.

It’s not to late to fill out a scholarship application.  Those of you who have already done so, you will be hearing from me shortly with instructions on how to fill out your online registration.
