About:
My name is Heather Smith and I am a parent of a child with X-SCID. Together, with the help of Dr. Jennifer Puck, we are putting together a SCID Conference for the summer of 2008.
History:
In 1997 the first X-SCID Conference was held in Bethesda, Maryland and was a huge success! We had approximately 50 families in attendance from the US and even a family from Europe. After 10 years there have been; new genes found, advances in treatment, newly diagnosed families, and new concerns from SCID families about how to deal with this disease on a day to day basis. This is why we feel another conference is so important at this time. In the past the conference focused only on X-SCID, this time all forms of SCID will be included. Families from the US and abroad will be welcome to attend. I’ve listed two publications under the “Publications” heading that were written as a result from the last conference and are worth checking out.
Conference Information:
The conference will be held on July 25th – 27th at Wintergreen Resort and Spa in Wintergreen, Va. There will be a select number of scholarships available for families from the US in need of financial assistance in order to attend the conference.
