Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction April 19, 2008

Filed under: Donations, Registration — scidstuff @ 10:41 am

Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction

You can “Go Green” and “Give Back” at the same time! “Go Green” by donating a used item to the “Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction”. Then “Give Back” by bidding in the auction itself. I am pleased to announce this exciting event will be included as a SCID Conference activity. I want everyone to come prepared for this fun exchange by bringing at least one item to donate to the auction, as well as bringing a check book to pay for the wonderful items you win.

Every registrant will be asked to bring with them at least one item to donate to the auction. The items do not need to be new, that’s where the “Going Green” part comes in. You can donate items which are in good, clean working condition, but which are no longer used in your house. All items will be displayed in a silent auction where all registrants may place their bids. All money collected will go directly to The SCID Initiative. So now, not only can you clean out some of those unused items, you can make a difference for a cause which is important to all of us.

What to donate:

Are there any stipulations on what I can and cannot donate? The first stipulation is that it be something small enough to be carried home in a suitcase or airline carry-on bag. Since many of our families will be arriving by plane, we want to have items which can easily return home with them. Second, the item must be in like-new working condition, clean, and have all its original parts. Third, no clothing or personal items please, unless they are unworn, with original tags. Fourth, stuffed animals should only be donated if they are new, with original tags. Think about those items which you or your kids no longer use. Some suggestions include:

  • Family Friendly DVD movies
  • Books, especially children’s books which your children have outgrown or popular reading list books
  • Children’s games, board games, toys, with all original parts and instructions
  • Costume jewelry that’s been stuck at the bottom of your jewelry box because you just don’t like it anymore
  • Scrapbooking supplies that you’ve grown tired of using
  • Electronic game disks or cartridges for current game systems such as: GameBoy, Game Cube, Wii, PS2, PS3, or Xbox which your kids have either beaten or outgrown
  • Small household accessories such as picture frames, vases, decorative accents, etc. that just don’t go with your current décor

So start your spring cleaning and start thinking about the “Going Green and Giving Back Silent Auction” and make your friends “Go Green” with envy when they see the wonderful items you’ve won!

We’ve chosen a winner!!!

First, I want to thank everyone who completed an entry for the logo contest.  It was a tough decision but we’ve chosen our winner and the design will be printed on the conference T-shirts.  The winner will be announced at the conference and the cash prize will be given during Saturday evening’s dinner reception, or mailed to the recipient if the winner is not present.

Great job everyone!

Things are progressing with the conference.  I am currently working with Diana Gill at the IDF on registration.  The Immune Deficiency Foundation has been gracious enough to host online registration for this event.  Thank you IDF! Registration will begin on Tuesday, May 6th and will run for four weeks only.  Remember, space is limited and we will be accepting applications on a first-come, first-severe basis.

Registration February 22, 2008

Filed under: Registration — heatherscidconf @ 3:32 pm

At this time we have not received all of our anticipated funding for the conference.  That being said, we are going to have to charge each family a $250 non refundable registration fee, paid during your registration process for the conference.  This registration fee will include:

    1.  2 nights lodging at Wintergreen Resort and Spa
    2.  All meals (six total)
    3.  All children’s activities
    4.  All educational activities

This really is a great deal for everyone who attends, as the price for one nights lodging alone is approximately $130.00.  The registration fee is charged per room, not per family, so if you are planning on coming alone and want to pair up with someone, you will only be charged one registration fee.  This also means, for example;  if you come as a family of four you will only be charged $250 for the entire weekend.

I’m hoping as we get closer to registration time (the beginning of May) more funding will come in and we will be able to reduce the registration fee.  There is no chance that it will be more that $250 but there is a chance it will go down! I will update this site immediately if/when that happens.

Remember, there are a limited number of scholarships available to help if this is going to be to much financially for you.  We would like to see everyone that wants to attend, be able to do so.  Please check out the “Scholarship” section of this blog for more information on how to apply.  Scholarships are being accepted until April 30, 2008.

For those families who are planning on making a “vacation” out of this, the resort will honor room prices for 2 days prior to the conference and 2 days after the conference.

    1.  Studio    $119.00/night
    2.  Lodge Room  $129.00/night

    3.  1 Bedroom Condo $139.00/night

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at Heather@scidangelsforlife.com

I’ve decided to start updating the blog on a weekly basis, so please remember to check back frequently. Today is the deadline for funding, so I’m hoping to have the cost per family listed by next week. Without knowing how much money there will be in donations, I am unable to give an accurate number. As you can see by the sponsorship page we’ve had an excellent response to our request for funding support.

**Don’t forget to have your children enter the Logo contest…..there is a great CASH prize! Please check the “Contest” section for the rules and remember the deadline is quickly approaching. Thank you to those of you who have let me know your children are currently working on a design.
